The BU PRSSA chapter had the privilege of speaking with Karine Delage, this past Wednesday.
Karine Delage gave valuable insights to our aspiring PR professionals about the diversity of
opportunity available within public relations. Delage works across Canada and the Northeast US
with clients of many different backgrounds. Whether it’s Gold Medal Olympians or
Singer/Songwriters loved by many, Delage’s portfolio stretches wide. Students got to hear about
what it takes to run your own PR agency as well as what it took to get Delage this far.
Alongside all of her experiences showcased in her speech, Delage reeled it all back into why
she loved PR by saying, “As PR professionals, we do so much behind the scenes that goes
unnoticed and it is important!”
Delage left students with a few helpful takeaways:
- Set boundaries early on. Your work life balance later on will thank you.
- Think about your credibility as well as the clients. Do things for the right reason.
- Never take things too personally. Everyone is living their own life, the same way you are.
- Don’t forget teamwork! Teamwork is what keeps Delage’s agency running smoothly and
is helpful at any time.
- Understand the region you are working in. This allows you to connect to your clients
through context and dialogue they are familiar with.
- A close relationship will get you further than you think in this industry.
- Network!! Reach out to others and attend events. You never know who you might come
across or who you might be of benefit to you in the future.
Thank You Karine Delage! We appreciate your insight!
