#PRStudChat – October 21st
I’m sure most of you who are on Twitter have noticed the hashtag #PRStudChat pop up every once and awhile, and you are probably wondering what it is. This is no ordinary hashtag – it is an opportunity for public relations students to connect with a wide array of PR professionals through a “formal twitter chat.” I had the pleasure of speaking with Valerie Simon, host of#PRStudChat and SVP of BurrellesLuce, who described it as “a forum for students, academics and professionals to discuss the future of the industry and provide all with new opportunities to learn and to network.”
Valerie mentioned that the past two chats have received a great response from professionals, including PR Agency CEO’s, thought leaders like Brian Solis and recent grads. Professionals also look to #PRStudChat to find their new interns or entry level hires.
#PRStudChat takes place once a month and the next chat will be on October 21st at noon, however this time will be a little different. “Whichever school has the greatest number of participants in the October 21st chat wins an in-depth conversation with public relations industry veteran Deirdre Breakenridge (four time author and President of PFS Marketwyse) via Skype. The winning students will have an opportunity to pose questions and interact with one of PR’s leading professionals. Additionally, the winning school will have the opportunity to earn some publicity for their PR programs. Also, BurrellesLuce will be donating a $50 American Express Gift Certificate to the students and school in order to celebrate their PR Student Chat win!” (See more details at http://www.pitchengine.com/free-release.php?id=27290)
Since we all love to network and learn from others involved in PR, this is a great opportunity for BU PRSSA members to get involved in. The competition is about the number of students from each school participating, so we all have our own hashtag. For Boston University, it is #BOU.
Here is a great link detailing what to do before and during a #PRStudChat. There will also be another blog post before October 21 to answer any remaining questions about this amazing opportunity. (http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-5725-Public-Relations-Examiner~y2009m9d29-Guide-to-Twitter-Chats)
