Here are some BUPRSSA alumni who’ve come back to share their stories and tips for current students!

Mike McDougall

APR, Fellow PRSA President, McDougall Communications

In addition to having been the BU PRSSA vice president, I was a Dean’s Host within COM. However, much of my time was spent elsewhere. Having transferred into BU from MIT during my freshman year, I continued to live at an MIT fraternity in Kenmore Square until graduation, living a unique, blended BU-MIT life.

Since graduating in 1995, I moved from the public relations agency world into corporate, leading global digital product PR for Eastman Kodak Company and serving as the global vice president of Corporate Communications & Public Affairs for Bausch & Lomb. I then returned to consulting in 2011, founding and growing my eponymous firm, which now has a core team of employees specializing in reputation and issues management, strategic planning and outreach for a range of clients.

Even before my days at Kodak, I had a love of photography. That’s continued, meaning I usually have a camera of some sort close at hand to feed my Instagram (mlmcdougall) and rotate through our office walls.

Rachel McLean

Project Coordinator with Bose Professional

In my time at BU I was: VP of BUPRSSA, BU PRSSA Regional Conference Coordinator, PRSSA National Conference Communications Coordinator, COM Ambassador

I graduated from COM in May 2018 and continued an internship at Dell EMC that I held the previous summer and through the school year through the summer of 2018.  In August 2018, I started as a marketing project coordinator with Bose Professional.

I’m interested in running – not super fun, but I just registered for my fourth marathon!

Kate Scott

In my time at BU I was: PRSSA, PR Advanced, COM Ambassadors, Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, COMlife

During my senior year at BU, I interned on the marketing team at Boston Common magazine and after graduating in 2014, join the team at Hamptons magazine (part of the same publishing company) as an Event Marketing Coordinator. After the summer season in the Hamptons, I moved to New York and started a job as an Assistant Account Executive at RODE, a creative branding firm that focused on real estate in NYC. After three years there, I joined King & Partners as an Account Manager, working on real estate and hospitality branding and digital projects. I recently joined K. Hovnanian Homes, one of the largest homebuilders in America as the Account Director for their marketing team, handling marketing strategy, creative project management, and media buying and buying.

Ana Carolina Senior

Head of John Hancock Public Relations

In addition to PRSSA, I was also an active member of Alpha Epsilon Phi, Scarlet Squad and International Student Volunteers, a non-profit organization through which I spent a month volunteering in Thailand. I also studied abroad in Madrid through the BU Internship Program.

I began my career in New York City at a boutique B2B PR agency, Brainerd Communicators, where I worked with clients in various industries, including retail & consumer, CSR, finance, energy and sustainable business. I then moved back to Boston to join Cone Communications, working with clients in the apparel and footwear, professional services, consumer goods/services and non-profit industries, including Timberland, Frito-Lay, PwC and the Pan-Mass Challenge, among others. In early 2018 I made the move in-house to John Hancock, where I lead public relations for the overall brand and our direct to consumer products and services.

I’ve tried every spin studio in Boston. Self-care is super important to me! I also got married to a fellow Terrier alum in 2018.

Monique Kelley Gigliotti (pronounced Gelati)

Senior Vice President, Global Client Experience Lead

As a student at BU, I was a former PRSA liaison for BU’s PRSSA and a runner on the NCAA Division I women’s track team. I’m honored, nearly 15 years after graduating and returning from NYC to Boston, to be involved in BU as a regular guest lecturer for the required CM331 writing course and media relations, as well as a panelist for PR Lab’s agency and 40th anniversary discussions. Additionally, I regularly speak with students at the BU PRSSA chapter meetings and presented at the 2018 PRSSA regional conference. I help facilitate student agency tours of Weber Shandwick Boston and NYC and refer recent BU grads for employment opportunities with the agency.

I discovered PR by mistake while I was attending BU – I was studying nutrition but ended up falling in love with media relations the first time I took the class with Professor Edward Downes and transferred from CAS to COM my junior year. I interned at several local agencies and the College of Fine Arts before moving days after graduation to NYC. While I started my career at a small investor relations firm in its media relations department, I ultimately ended up in healthcare communications for larger global agencies, including my current leadership position with Weber Shandwick. I started with Weber Shandwick New York in 2010 and moved to Boston, officially transferring to Weber Shandwick Boston in 2016.

While the biggest hobby in my life has been and always will be distance running, I enjoy strength training. It must be in the blood as my father was a bodybuilder: Mr. New Jersey 1987.
